Vol. 556 No. 4

Written Answers. - Proposed Legislation.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

117 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Defence the number of submissions his Department has received in relation to the proposed Curragh of Kildare Bill, the number of bodies which he or his Department has met in relation to the Curragh and its development; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20807/02]

The interdepartmental task force on the future management and development of the Curragh of Kildare afforded interested groups and individuals an opportunity to make submissions in relation to the Curragh 28 such submissions were received. The main recommendation contained in the report of the task force is that a statutory body should be established under the aegis of the Department of Defence to manage the Curragh, with the exception of the Curragh Camp. The necessary legislation to give effect to this, and to the other recommendations of the task force report is being prepared at present and it is expected that heads of Bills will shortly be submitted for the approval of Government.
