Ceist:

296 Ms Enright asked the Minister for Education and Science the funding allocated and the funding spent on the fund for students with disabilities towards the provision of services and the purchase of equipment for students with disabilities attending courses in third level institutions and on post leaving certificate courses for each of the past five years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21468/02]

Applications for funding under the fund for students with disabilities are submitted to my Department by third level students through access and disability officers in their respective institutions. The applications of post-leaving certificate students are submitted through the principals of the relevant post-leaving certificate centres. Grant assistance is subsequently allocated by my Department to the relevant third level institutions and post-leaving certificate centres in respect of successful applicants on the basis of applications received. The funding allocated for the last five years is as follows: 1997, €276,803; 1998, €317,435; 1999, €888,817; 2000, €1,565,587; 2001, €2,619,470.
