Vol. 557 No. 1

Written Answers. - Roads Funding.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

423 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if his Department has received an application for funding from Kildare County Council for the provision of a new bridge at Ardenode, Ballymore Eustace; and if his Department has received an application for funding for repair work to the present bridge. [21212/02]

Kildare County Council has recently submitted eight proposals to my Department for funding totalling €2,808,900 in 2003 under the EU co-financed specific improvement grants scheme. Included in these proposals is an application for funding of €170,000 for the reconstruction of part of Ardenode Bridge.

This application, together with all other applications under this scheme, will be considered in my Department having regard to compliance with eligibility criteria, the need to prioritise projects, competing demands from other local authorities and the funds available for the scheme in 2003.

I intend to announce the 2003 non-national road grant allocations, including allocations under the EU co-financed specific improvement grants scheme, early in 2003.
