Vol. 557 No. 1

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Pádraic McCormack

Ceist:

435 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding the provision of a sewerage system for Clifden, Leenane and Carraroe and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21489/02]

Clifden sewerage scheme is included in my Department's water services investment programme for 2002 to 2004, to commence construction in 2003. Further consideration will be given to the revised preliminary report for the scheme submitted by Galway County Council on receipt of the additional information requested by my Department from the council in July 2002.

Carraroe sewerage scheme is included in the investment programme to advance through planning. The submission of a preliminary report for the scheme by Galway County Council is awaited by my Department.

In September 2002 I approved the updated preliminary report submitted by Galway County Council for the Leenane sewerage scheme which has been approved for funding under the rural towns and villages initiative. It is now a matter for the council to prepare tender documents for the scheme which, together with the Kilkerrin and Dunmore sewerage schemes, is being advanced as a grouped design-build-operate project.
