Vol. 557 No. 1

Written Answers. - Restoration Projects.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

437 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will review the reply to Question No. 383 of 22 October 2002 regarding Reginald's Tower; if he will provide a breakdown of the ?56,000 and con firm it includes the full cost of the Dúchas and external workers employed, the cost of supervision, travelling and subsistence and the cost of the nominal hire charge of scaffolding; the size of the tower in square metres; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21580/02]

The starting date for repairs to Reginald's Tower referred to in the reply to Question No. 383 of 22 October 2002 relates to the current phase of works under the National Development Plan 2000-2006.

The associated cost referred to, €56,000, includes the cost of Dúchas and external workers at the site. It does not include the cost of supervision, travelling and subsistence or the nominal hire charge of scaffolding owned by my Department because the existing accounting system does not provide for that level of job costing. My Department intends to put in place a system of cost centres at heritage properties as part of the implementation of a new financial management system for all activities within its remit. The surface area of the tower walls is some 710 sq. m.
