Participation in the euro by any EU member state that meets the qualifying criteria is entirely a mat ter for the member state concerned. In the case of Denmark and Sweden, the Deputy may be aware that the Governments in both countries have pledged to hold referenda on the issue in the near future. It would be inappropriate, I believe, to make any comment at this stage that might be interpreted as an intervention in the debate on euro-accession in either country.
