The school in question opened in September with provisional recognition from my Department. It is currently in rented accommodation.
When the school attains permanent recognition from my Department, the question of providing permanent accommodation on a greenfield site will be considered in the context of the funding available and the priority to be afforded to projects at that time. At present it is not possible to give any indication as to the timescale for the provision of permanent accommodation for the school.

My Department has approved the provision of a new 16 classroom school for this national school and construction work is in progress.

My Department's building unit has no record of receiving any recent applications for grant aid towards the provision of any additional capital works to these schools.
The schools concerned are in receipt in an annual devolved grant under the grant scheme for minor works to national school properties.

The school authorities concerned applied for refurbishment works to the school.
At present my Department has an extensive primary schools building programme under way. Details of the programme are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie.
In view of the extensive nature of the programme, my Department has no plans to start architectural planning for further major primary schools building projects. The situation will be kept under review.

At present the long-term accommodation requirements of the school are being assessed by my Department in the context of existing school provision and anticipated developments in the greater Lucan area.
When this assessment is complete appropriate measures will be taken in the light of identified needs and available resources.

Phase one of a major refurbishment project at St. Thomas's and St Anne's national schools, Lucan is currently in construction.
Architectural planning for phase two of the project is at an early stage. Decisions on projects proceeding to tender and construction in 2003 will be taken in the light of the annual allocation for primary school buildings, taking into account the contractual commitments to be met on projects approved and the priority to be afforded to individual projects.
106 Mr. Gogarty asked the Minister for Education and Science the extent to which extra facilities have been determined to be a requirement for Archbishop Ryan School, Lucan; the progress in relation to addressing these needs in the past 12 months, on a monthly basis; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department has requested the property management unit of the Office of Public Works, which acts on behalf of my Department in site acquisitions generally, to report on the possibility of acquiring additional land for the provision of extra school accommodation.
As soon as a report is received the matter will be given further consideration in the light of funding available for the primary school building programme.

My Department received an application from County Dublin VEC for refurbishment/extension of St. Kevin's Community College. In advance of making a capital investment in the school and consistent with standard practice, my Department's planning section has been asked to assess the school's long-term viability. This analysis is currently taking place. The outcome of this process will be agreement with the school authority on long-term enrolment projections for the school.
When this procedure has been completed the question of addressing any deficits in accommodation will be addressed.

My Department is currently examining the final tender report for a major extension project at Coláiste Phádraig, Lucan. A decision on this report will be conveyed to the school authorities shortly.

A major project to provide a new school for Coláiste Cois Lífe, Lucan, County Dublin is currently progressing through architectural planning. Last July approval was given to the school authority, County Dublin VEC, to proceed to stage 4/5 of architectural planning, detail design and preparation of the bill of quantities and other contract documentation. The outcome is awaited in my Department.
Prior to commencing stage 4/5 County Dublin VEC submitted its planning application to the local authority. It is expected that planning permission for the school will be granted in the near future.

My Department has requested South Dublin County Council to reserve a site in the Newcastle Lyons area plan, which my officials have been informed is in the final stages of preparation. This plan, when it becomes available, will assist my Department considerably in regard to planning school provision in that area.
Pending the production of the plan my Department has arranged for health and safety works to be carried out at St. Finian's national school.

Officials of my Department's planning section meet the planning department of South Dublin County Council on a regular basis. This is done with a view to identifying the need for additional educational provision and reserving sites for schools, where required. Arising from this process a site for primary school purposes has been reserved in the Saggart area.
A decision on whether to proceed with the provision of a new school in Saggart will involve further consultations with the local authority regarding the rate and likely timescale of housing developments in the area. In the interim my Department's planning and building unit is currently examining a request for temporary accommodation from the board of management of St. Mary's national school, Saggart.
122 Mr. Gogarty asked the Minister for Education and Science the extent to which extra facilities have been determined to be a requirement for St. Brigid's school, Clondalkin; the progress in relation to addressing these needs in the past year, on a monthly basis; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department has approved in principle the preparation of stage 4/5, the detail design/bill of quantities submission, in respect of a proposed new school for Coláiste Bríde, Clondalkin, Dublin 22.
The post-primary building unit has advised the school authorities to appeal a number of conditions in the planning permission recently granted by South Dublin County Council in respect of the project. My Department will not be in a position to formally approve the stage 4/5 submission until the outcome of the appeal to An Bord Pleanála is known.
