Vol. 557 No. 6

Written Answers. - Doctorate in Clinical Psychology.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

44 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the implications for the psychological services of the decision to cancel the doctorate in clinical psychology which was to have been run by the Northern Area Health Board and Trinity College and which was due to commence in October 2002, but which has now been cancelled as a result of lack of funding; if in view of a reported 50% vacancy rate for clinical psychologists he will consider taking steps to have the course reinstated; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22925/02]

My Department has been informed by the Northern Area Health Board, NAHB, that this course has not been cancelled, rather the start date has been postponed in order for funding arrange ments to be finalised by the NAHB and the other area boards, along with the Eastern Regional Health Authority and other interested parties. I understand that this is being undertaken with a view to the course commencing early in 2003.
