Vol. 558 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Cecilia Keaveney

Ceist:

265 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Education and Science the position in relation to an application for a building project (details supplied) in County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23346/02]

My Department has an extensive primary school building programme under way at present, details of which are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie.

In view of the extensive nature of the current programme, my Department has no plans at present to initiate architectural planning for any further major building projects for the foreseeable future.

In the meantime, the board of management of the school in question should use the devolved grant to deal with any urgent health and safety works.

Noel Grealish

Ceist:

266 Mr. Grealish asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding extension and refurbishment work at St. James's national school, Bushpark, Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23347/02]

Architectural planning for a building project at St. James's national school, Bushpark, Galway, is at an advanced stage.

Decisions on projects proceeding to tender and construction in 2003 will be taken in the light of the allocations for primary school buildings in the 2003 Estimates.

I will be announcing my expenditure proposals for school buildings in the new year. It is not possible at this point to say when construction will commence.

Olivia Mitchell

Ceist:

267 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department will be including a school (details supplied) in Dublin 16 for grant funding for immediate and urgently required fencing; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23348/02]

The school authorities have recently submitted tenders for the work in question. I will not be in a position until the new year to indicate if funding will be available to allow it to proceed.

In the meantime, the board of management should use the devolved grant to deal with any urgent health and safety works.
