33 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the steps being taken to deal with the internal difficulties within the Heritage Council that has led to the recent resignation of three members of the council; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23859/02]
I have recently appointed a senior official from my Department to fill a vacancy in the membership of the Heritage Council, which I expect will continue to discharge its statutory duties actively and effectively. The National Heritage Plan, published in April 2002, provided for a review of the Heritage Act 1995. This is now being pursued, in association with a wider review of Dúchas which transferred to my Department in July 2002.
