Vol. 558 No. 3

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Billy Timmins

Ceist:

94 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Finance his plans to assist the flood victims in the Shannon basin area; his plans to carry out remedial works; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24133/02]

I am acutely conscious of the difficulties caused for homeowners and farmers by the regular flooding of the Shannon. The Deputy will be aware that there is no single statutory body with responsibility for the River Shannon from the flooding point of view. Notwithstanding this, I have asked the Commissioners of Public Works to review all previous studies of the Shannon to determine whether there are any feasible options for flood alleviation works at a local rather than whole catchment basis. I expect to have the review completed shortly.
