Vol. 558 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

108 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will sanction the stage 4 preparation of a detailed design for the required extension to Maynooth post primary school, Maynooth, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25321/02]

The stage three, developed sketch scheme, has been examined in my Department's post-primary building unit. It has been necessary to seek further clarification on a number of issues from the chief executive officer of County Kildare VEC and his design team regarding this submission. A response has been received and will be examined by the Department's technical staff. When this examination is completed, subject to all being satisfactory, the question of allowing the project to proceed to stage four, detailed design, will be considered in the light of available capital for 2003 and priorities presenting.

Seán Ryan

Ceist:

109 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the difficulties in providing specialist classrooms, particularly in science, in Malahide community school, County Dublin; and the way in which this situation can be resolved pending the construction of the new school. [25322/02]

Seán Ryan

Ceist:

110 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will report on the current planning position in respect of the new school building for Malahide community school, County Dublin; and if there will be no delay in the process that would prevent the school being completed at that stage. [25323/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 109 and 110 together.

In August 2002 my Department approved funding for the conversion of existing classrooms at Malahide community school for use as a technology room and a computer room and prefabricated temporary accommodation has been provided in lieu of the rooms that were converted.

In relation to the provision of a science room, the school authority has been informed that it is not proposed to provide science facilities on a temporary basis. The school will, however, have its full entitlement of science facilities in the proposed new school.

My Department recently authorised the design team to prepare and submit draft stage 3 – developed sketch scheme – for the proposed new school. It is anticipated that the design team will be in a position to submit this report in January 2003 and upon receipt of this documentation the matter will be further examined within my Department.

Jim O'Keeffe

Ceist:

111 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education and Science the position in relation to the proposed extension to Eyeries national school in Beara, County Cork; if approval has been granted for same; when it is expected that the work will commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25324/02]

Architectural planning for a building project at Eyeries national school is at an early stage. I will be announcing my Department's expenditure proposals for primary school buildings in the new year. It is not possible at this point to give any indication as to when individual projects will proceed to tender and construction.
