Vol. 558 No. 6

Written Answers. - Health Board Services.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

121 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children the chiropody services available to public patients in County Carlow; if this service was available in the past; if so, if it was reduced or discontinued; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25215/02]

I have been informed by the South Eastern Health Board that until recently chiropody services have been provided to medical card holders over 65 years of age in the Carlow area on a sessional basis. I am also informed that the person providing the service has recently resigned. Consequent to this resignation, the South Eastern Health Board has provided additional funding to continue the provision of this service on a contract basis.

The board has also informed me that it employs one chiropodist in the Carlow-Kilkenny community care area who provides services two days per week in the community and three days per week in the hospitals. Approval has been received to employ a second chiropodist, subject to agreement being reached on qualifications for this post.

Ceist:

122 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children if home aids will be supplied by the SEHB in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny; if the recommendations of the health nurse will be acted upon as a matter of urgency; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25216/02]

Responsibility for the provision of services in the Kilkenny area rests with the South-Eastern Health Board. My Department has therefore asked the chief executive officer to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and reply directly to him.
