Vol. 558 No. 6

Written Answers. - Computer Security.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

139 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health and Children if all information electronically stored in his Department is adequately protected against hackers; if there have been breaches in this security; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25281/02]

Information stored electronically in my Department is protected from external threats by a number of measures, including the use of industry standard fire walls, authentication devices and security software to ensure that all data residing on departmental networks are secure. We have no evidence to suggest the Department's security has been compromised by hackers and stringent measures have been put in place to ensure a high level of computer security exits at all times. The information technology infrastructure is constantly under review to ensure security measures are effective and working. From time to time testing of the infrastructure by independent experts takes place.
