Vol. 559 No. 2

Written Answers. - Animal Feedstuffs.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

121 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he has satisfied himself that all rations fed to poultry here do not present any threat to the industry or the beef industry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26128/02]

The controls on animal feed for poultry that are operated by my Department fulfil all the obligations under the EU regulations on animal feeds and in certain areas go beyond what is required. The EU controls in this area are continually monitored and reviewed by the European Commission. In addition to controls on compound feeds, the controls in operation here cover both home produced feed ingredients and imported feed from the EU and third countries.

I am satisfied that all necessary precautions are being taken to ensure that rations fed to poultry in Ireland do not present any threat to the industry or the beef industry.
