Vol. 559 No. 2

Written Answers. - Airport Charges.

Gay Mitchell

Ceist:

175 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Transport if his attention has been drawn to the fact that Irish travellers, such as a person (details supplied) in Dublin 10, are being charged a security supplement; if this is lawful as it charges a tax on Irish travellers; if it is approved by his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26379/02]

I have no function in relation to the charges, including supplements or taxes, which are levied by airports and airlines throughout the world.

The determination of the maximum levels of airport charges levied by Aer Rianta at Dublin, Cork and Shannon Airports is a matter for the Commission for Aviation Regulation, pursuant to the Aviation Regulation Act, 2001.

If the person involved continues to be unhappy with the explanation provided by the tour operator he might consider referring the matter to the director of consumer affairs.
