In the current economic circumstances, it was necessary to take the decision not to proceed with the tender competition for the acquisition of medium lift helicopters.
Apart from that, the savings required to be made by my Department in 2002 and 2003 will be achieved by managing the available resources so as to protect priority expenditure programmes and without any undue impact on the operations of the Department and the Defence Forces.
