Vol. 559 No. 6
215 Mr. F. McGrath asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will investigate and clarify the case of a person (details supplied). [26893/02]
In the course of his correspondence with my Department in recent years, the person in question has made allegations about a number of firms of solicitors and a bank in relation to their dealings with their dealings with him in a property transaction. Where the allegations made could be considered to relate to a criminal matter, my Department has advised the person that he should inform the Garda Síochána or the RUC – now the Police Service of Northern Ireland – so that they could take appropriate action.
Where the allegations made relate to civil matters, I am sure you will appreciate that as the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform I have no function and it would not be appropriate for me to intervene in any way. I also understand that the person in question has been advised of the various measures provided by way of legislation for dealing with complaints against solicitors.
