Ceist:

332 Mr. Crowe asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of primary schools which have computer laboratories accessible for students; and the number of schools which do not have these facilities. [27133/02]

My Department does not have details at present of the number of primary schools which have rooms specially dedicated for computer use.

My Department is currently assessing a pilot inventory of accommodation of 115 primary and post-primary schools which was undertaken in County Kildare in 2002. The information has been placed on a geographic information system – GIS – database. The assessment will determine the exact nature and extent of the nationwide survey, having regard to available resources. When the nationwide inventory has been completed, my Department will be in a better posi tion to determine the number of rooms in each school and the use to which the accommodation is put.
