Vol. 560 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

377 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science if free school transport can be provided to a person (details supplied) in County Kildare whose daughter attends St. Rose's special school, Tallaght, Dublin 24; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1301/03]

My Department has been advised by Bus Éireann that there is no suitable service on which this pupil can be accommodated. In addition, the cost involved in establishing a new service to facilitate this pupil would be prohibitive.

In the circumstances, my Department has sanctioned grant aid, at the maximum rate allowable, towards the cost of private transport arrangements from the pupils home to the school.
