843 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the steps which need to be taken for a person to change from refugee status to obtain a work permit; the timescale involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1604/03]
There is no requirement for a person with refugee status to apply for a work permit. Under section 3 of the Refugee Act 1996, a refugee in relation to whom a declaration is in force shall be entitled, inter alia, to seek and enter employment or to carry on any business, trade or profession in the like manner and to the like extent in all respects as an Irish citizen.
