Vol. 560 No. 1

Written Answers. - Local Authority Recruitment.

Olivia Mitchell

Ceist:

885 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will examine the recruitment requirements for local authorities in view of the circumstances of a person (details supplied) in County Dublin and the fact that some of the older applicants, who may not have their leaving certificate, would be more than qualified for positions in local authorities; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1116/03]

The qualifications declared for the employment of clerical officer in a local authority currently require a leaving certificate or equivalent in most cases. However, special provisions apply to allow serving local authority staff and persons formerly employed in local authorities and health boards to apply even if they do not have a leaving certificate.

These qualifications are currently being reviewed to establish what, if any, changes may be required at this stage.
