Seymour Crawford

Ceist:

35 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the total amount of money the Government spent from their own resources on agriculture for each of the past ten years. [2175/03]

The net Vote for my Department represents net expenditure of the Government on agriculture and food. The net Vote for my Department for each of the past ten years was as follows:

The Vote for my Department for the years 1996 and 1997 included expenditure and receipt items in relation to forestry. For ease of comparison, these expenditures and receipts have been excluded from the figures above.
It should be noted that the substantial increase in the net Vote in 2001 reflects the additional costs incurred by my Department in relation to the foot and mouth disease and the purchase for destruction and special purchase schemes.
