Vol. 561 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

299 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the parishioners of a local county cannot use a general practice facility for their activities due to the fact that it has to be used as a classroom because of his Department's decision to refuse additional temporary accommodation for the school (details supplied) in County Kildare; if he will re-assess the board of management's application for such accommodation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3707/03]

The 2003 school building programme has now been published and full details in relation to individual projects are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie. On the basis of the budgetary allocation it was not possible to include any further projects in 2003. The budgetary allocation for 2004 and subsequent years will determine the rate of progress on projects that could not be included in this year's programme.

Ceist:

300 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department will provide funding to the board of management to purchase much needed furnishings such as desks, chairs, teachers' tables and so on, for a school (details supplied) in County Kildare in view of the fact that the board of management has used practically all of the minor grant money in re-wiring the school, repairing gutters and so on; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3708/03]

The 2003 capital programme has been published and full details of individual projects are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie. Decisions on the provision of grant aid for furniture at individual schools will be taken in light of the allocation as set out in the programme and having regard to the level of competing demands. My Department will be in touch with the school authorities, as soon as possible.

303 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a school (details supplied) in County Kildare has to move a class to facilities which do not qualify under his Department's specifications, being 52 square metres instead of 76 square metres including a toilet; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that the students using this facility will have to leave the school building to access toilets or disrupt an adjacent class if the weather is bad; if his Department will reconsider the board of management's application, due to these unacceptable conditions for the students, for the provision of temporary accommodation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
