Vol. 561 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Charlie O'Connor

Ceist:

455 Mr. O'Connor asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his Department is in discussions with the Garda authorities regarding plans for the redevelopment of Tallaght Garda station arising from media reports that the station is to be demolished and rebuilt; the position regarding the station; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3178/03]

My Department is in regular contact with the Garda authorities about the progress of various Garda building projects, including the future development of Tallaght Garda station.

The Deputy will be aware from a reply given by my colleague, Deputy Parlon, Minister of State at the Department of Finance, on 5 November 2002, Questions Nos. 268, 269, and 291, that the Office of Public Works is researching proposals, in consultation with Dublin South County Council, to maximise the development potential of the site of Tallaght Garda station as an urban campus for Departments. I understand from that office that this research is continuing.

Any redevelopment of the site will include the provision of a new Garda station which will meet all current and future requirements of the Garda.
