Vol. 561 No. 5

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a number of topics under Standing Order 31 and I will call on the Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office.

I seek leave to move the Adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 on the following specific and important matter of public interest: the ongoing dispute between FÁS and Bord Scannán na hÉireann, the Irish Film Board, which is disrupting the work of Screen Training Ireland, the national training body for the film and television industries, and which is threatening the provision of training in this key cultural industry.

I seek to move the Adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss a matter of national importance: the need for the Minister for Health and Children to clarify the proposed plans for the withdrawal of maternity and accident and emergency services at Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe, and the accident and emergency services at Roscommon County Hospital, which would leave the public needing to travel up to 75 miles for such facilities and whether this is the Government's objective for the development of health services in Ireland.

I seek the Adjournment of the House under Standing Order 31 to discuss an issue of national importance: whether the Government plans to end training for organic farmers, given the doubts over the future of Mellows College, Athenry, which provides a unique course in organic training for farmers.

I seek the Adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to raise a matter of urgent and significant importance: the decision by the Minister for Health and Children to exclude south Tipperary from the extension of the BreastCheck service, thereby denying south Tipperary women an important and potentially life-saving service.

Having considered all the matters raised, they are not in order under Standing Order 31.
