All major housing authorities, that is, county and city councils, Drogheda, Sligo and Wexford Borough Councils and Athlone and Dundalk Town Councils operate the shared ownership scheme. The following table sets out the initial capital allocation notified to each local authority in 2002. Last year the following local authorities sought an increase and were granted approval to exceed their allocation: Cavan; Donegal; Galway; Kildare; Kilkenny; Laois; Limerick; Offaly; Sligo; North and South Tipperary; Wexford and Wicklow County Councils, Cork; Dublin; Galway and Limerick City Councils and Wexford Borough Council. Notification of this year's allocations will be issued shortly.
Information on activity under the scheme is published in my Department's housing statistics bulletins, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library. Detailed information on the day-to-day operation of the scheme in individual authorities, including the maximum loan limit applied, is not available in my Department.
My Department will continue and support the shared ownership scheme as an important instrument in support of affordable housing.
