Vol. 562 No. 1
195 Mr. Gogarty asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to the findings of the Irish financial awareness report, released in January 2003; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5395/03]
I have not seen a copy of the report referred to by the Deputy, but I have seen media reports about its purported contents. I understand from those reports that it is essentially a market survey undertaken by a life assurance company. Apparently, it estimates the proportion of Irish people availing of certain financial services, and surveys attitudes and awareness of certain financial products.
I understand the report also comments on public awareness of personal retirement savings accounts, PRSAs. The Deputy will be aware that legislation on PRSAs comes within the area of responsibility of my colleague, the Minister for Social and Family Affairs.
