Vol. 562 No. 3

Written Answers - Court Accommodation.

Jim O'Keeffe

Ceist:

199 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the details of the announcement he recently made in relation to Cork courthouse; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5945/03]

Cork courthouse was vacated in 1999 as it was in need of major refurbishment. The Circuit Court office and sittings of the High and Circuit Courts have been located in temporary premises since then.

The Courts Service and Cork City Council, who have ownership of the courthouse at this time, have, at all times, been most anxious that this very prestigious building be refurbished.

Given the urgent need to provide suitable courthouse accommodation in Cork, I hope to be able to announce shortly details of the arrangement between Cork City Council and the Courts Service which will see work on the refurbishment of the Washington Street courthouse commence shortly.
