Vol. 562 No. 6

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 31. I call on the Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office.

I seek the adjournment of Dáil Éireann to discuss a matter of urgent national importance, namely, the regionalisation of our hospital services, which acts to the detriment of other general hospitals through the removal of much-needed local services such as maternity and 24-hour accident and emergency services. Cavan General Hospital and Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, continue to be the subject of ongoing industrial relations problems due to the fact that staff cannot cope with the ever-increasing workload in overcrowded and unworkable situations.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to raise a matter of national importance: the decision of An Bord Pleanála to ignore the advice of its inspector and grant by a 7:2 majority permission for an incinerator at Carranstown, just outside Drogheda.

I seek the adjournment of Dáil Éireann to discuss an issue of national importance, namely, the lack of extended facilities for older people in the greater Dublin area, which, according to consultants at St. James's Hospital, has now reached crisis point. The Minister for Health and Children should be aware of this.

Having considered the matters raised, I do not consider them to be in order under Standing Order 31.
