554 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs the names of persons from County Roscommon who are currently on State boards under the authority of his Department; the date of their appointment; the duration of their term; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As the Deputy will be aware appointments to State boards are made on the basis of the suitability of the individuals for the position. The appointees' county of origin is not a factor in selecting appointees, and that information is not normally held on record by my Department.
However, I can confirm to the Deputy that Councillor Pat McGarry, who is a member of the Western Development Commission, a State board under the authority of my Department, is currently resident in County Roscommon. Councillor McGarry was appointed on 1 February 2002 for a period to 31 January 2005.

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 240 of 26 February in which I advised the House that I have made no appointments to State boards since June 2002. However, of the appointees to the North-South body, An Forás Teanga, that are made by the North-South Ministerial Council, referred to in that reply, Mr. Pádraig Ó Duibhir is resident in my constituency.
