Vol. 563 No. 4

Written Answers - Great Southern Hotels Group.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Ceist:

509 Ms B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Transport the position regarding the proposed sale of a hotel (details supplied) in County Kerry; the content and outcome of discussions he or his officials have had with management or unions in this regard; his proposals for the future of a hotel group (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7703/03]

As I said in reply to a number of previous Dáil questions on this matter, I will revisit the question of the future of the Great Southern Hotels Group in due course. I intend, however, to concentrate for the time being on the priority issues for aviation, and transport in general, as set out in the programme for Government. With regard to the proposed sale of the Torc Hotel in Killarney by the Great Southern Hotels Group, I met with a union delegation in December last year. My officials also met with management in the GSH group. The union representatives had concerns regarding the impact of the proposal on the staff of the hotel. I urged both sides to meet and discuss the concerns of the staff involved.

I understand that a number of meetings between management and staff have taken place to discuss these issues. A conciliation conference took place between management and SIPTU at the Labour Relations Commission on Wednesday 19 March. The LRC's proposals are awaited and will be considered by both parties.
