Vol. 563 No. 4

Written Answers - Dublin Port Tunnel.

Finian McGrath

Ceist:

521 Mr. F. McGrath asked the Minister for Transport the reason the cost of the Dublin Port tunnel is running at ?625 million when the original tender price was ?449 million in June 2000. [8015/03]

Matters connected with the Dublin Port tunnel are the responsibility of the National Roads Authority and Dublin City Council. However, I am informed by the NRA that the original tender price was €449 million, for construction only, in June 2000. Together with land and property compensation, supervision costs and other mis cellaneous costs, the total estimated project cost was approximately €533 million in year 2000 prices. The total estimated cost of the project in year 2002 prices is €625 million. The increase of 17% is attributable primarily to inflation, with some additions for land cost claims.
