Vol. 563 No. 4

Written Answers - Insurance Industry.

Jim O'Keeffe

Ceist:

126 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the position in relation to the proposed personal injuries assessment board; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8080/03]

I appointed the chairperson and ordinary members of the interim board of the personal injuries assessment board, PIAB, on 27 November last. The chairperson engaged in an intensive round of bilateral contacts with members of the interim board. These bilateral meetings covered matters relating to the future work of the board; for example, the compilation of a database of court awards. The interim board met on 24 February and made decisions in relation to the brief assigned to it and the work undertaken since its appointment on 27 November. Items covered included natural justice and fair procedures, compilation of a book of quantum and interface with the courts system. One of the tasks of the interim board is to contribute to the preparation of the requisite legislation to put the PIAB on a statutory basis. Initial preparation of the legislation has commenced in my Department.

Question No. 127 answered with Question No. 115.
