Ceist:289 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when he will take action with local authorities to address the complaints regarding substandard rented accommodation which abound. [8795/03]

Responsibility for enforcing the Housing (Standards for Rented Houses) Regulations, 1993 rests with local authorities, who have been advised by my Department of the need to put in place effective arrangements in this regard.
