Ceist:

100 Mr. Timmins asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if her attention has been drawn to the fact that a company (details supplied) does not quote car insurance for politicians; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9100/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 98 to 100, inclusive, together.

The pricing and underwriting of insurance is a matter for individual insurance companies and EU law prevents Governments from intervening in the matter. I have no information on the occupations or professions of policyholders dealt with by insurers.
The statutory returns submitted to my Department by insurance companies for the year 2001 indicate that a total of 19 insurers wrote motor insurance in Ireland in that year.
