My Department has received an application for an increase in resource teaching support for the pupil referred to by the Deputy. All applications for resource teacher and/or special needs assistant support received in my Department between 11 November 2002 and 14 February 2003 have been referred to the national educational psychological service, NEPS, for recommendation on the level and nature of an appropriate educational response. A decision regarding support for the pupil in question will issue to the school authorities when this recommendation has been received. I expect that this process will be completed shortly.
