Vol. 564 No. 5

Written Answers - Tax Code.

Denis Naughten

Ceist:

420 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government further to Parliamentary Question No. 300 of 1 April 2003, if he will outline specifically the percentage of the ?540.5 million collected that is reallocated to local authorities for non-national roads; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9820/03]

In 2002, some €431.7 million was paid to local authorities in non-national road grants from the local government fund and the Exchequer, representing some 80% of the €540.5 million collected by licensing authorities in motor tax, net of administrative costs.

These grant amounts are over and above grants paid by the National Roads Authority to local authorities for the improvement and maintenance of national roads.

Questions Nos. 421 and 422 answered with Question No. 413.
