Vol. 565 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Correspondence.

Gay Mitchell

Ceist:

160 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will consider the points raised by a person in correspondence (details supplied) concerning an Irish citizen in a US prison; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10804/03]

The consulate general in Boston has been in regular contact with the Irish citizen to whom the Deputy refers since his imprisonment, and the vice consul has visited him most recently on 10 February 2003.

The consulate has also been in regular contact with his lawyers and has provided them with all relevant information they had requested.
As the Deputy will appreciate, it would not be appropriate for me to intervene in matters that are before the courts in another jurisdiction.
