367 Mr. Costello asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his views on a newspaper article (details supplied); if there is truth in the statement that a false allegation of serious criminal behaviour remains on Garda files against a person referred to in the article; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform (Mr. McDowell):

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the matters raised by the Deputy are currently the subject of correspondence between the Chief State Solicitor's office and a firm of solicitors. Under the circumstances, I do not consider it appropriate to comment further on the matter at this stage.
