The Reception and Integration Agency, RIA, is responsible, inter alia, for meeting the accommodation needs of asylum seekers under the system of dispersal and direct provision which was introduced in April 2000. Refugees and persons given leave to remain in the State on the basis of parentage of an Irish born child prior to the recent Supreme Court decision essentially have access on the same basis as Irish citizens to the general housing stock, and as such, the RIA has no information on the individual locations of this cohort of immigrants.

The RIA constantly monitors the rates of payment to the providers of accommodation and, as a consequence of this, most commercial accommodation providers have signed memoranda of agreement with the RIA at a significantly lower rate than prevailed in the market in the past. Current weekly rates for full board fall within the range of €182.00 and €222.60 per person per week.
In relation to the Dublin area the Reception and Integration Agency operates five reception centres for newly arrived asylum seekers which can accommodate up to 700 people at any given time.
