Vol. 565 No. 3

Written Answers. - Local Authorities.

Charlie O'Connor

Ceist:

401 Mr. O'Connor asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if his attention has been drawn to the campaign by South Dublin County Council to have Tallaght, the third largest population centre in the State, designated as a city; if his attention has further been drawn to the significant development of Tallaght, particularly over the past 13 years; the way in which this ideal could be progressed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10692/03]

Local government in Dublin was reorganised with effect from 1993 and is now served by Dublin City Council and three separate county councils one of which is South Dublin County Council in whose area Tallaght is located. I am aware of many important civic and infrastructural developments which have subsequently occurred in the Tallaght area, including the building of the County Council headquarters. I have no proposals however to change the present constitution of the Dublin local authorities.
