Vol. 566 No. 1

Written Answers. - Ombudsman for Children.

Seán Ryan

Ceist:

127 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Health and Children the reasons no steps have been taken to appoint an ombudsman for children as provided for in the Ombudsman for Children Act 2002 passed by the Houses of the Oireachtas more than a year ago; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11988/03]

As the Deputy will be aware the Ombudsman for Children Act 2002, which was signed by the President in May 2002, provides for the setting up of an ombudsman's office by end of April 2004. Work is ongoing in my Department in relation to all aspects of establishing the office including the appointment of the ombudsman for children.

Question No. 128 answered with Question No. 94.
