Vol. 566 No. 2

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

John Cregan

Ceist:

117 Mr. Cregan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will examine the case of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 11; and if a special needs care assistant will be provided from the next school year for this person and their school. [12451/03]

The enrolment of a pupil in a primary school is a matter for the school's board of management. My Department operates an automatic response to applications for special needs assistant support to enable schools to cater for children with special needs once these needs are confirmed through assessments by relevant professionals.

It is open to the management authorities of the school in question to submit an application for such support to my Department, having regard to the Department's criteria and procedures for special needs resource allocation.
