Vol. 567 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

235 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Education and Science the position in relation to the building project for Kilmuckridge Vocational College, Gorey, County Wexford; if steps will be taken to progress the planning from stage 4 to stage 5 of the building programme as a matter of urgency; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13465/03]

The 2003 capital programme has been published. Full details of projects are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie.

The proposed extension at Kilmuckridge is at an advanced stage of architectural planning and is included in section 6 of the published programme. In view of the scale of the 2003 schools building programme, and having regard to the level of financial commitments to be met from projects already in construction, my Department does not envisage that it will be in a position during this year to allow architectural planning for further large scale building projects to progress beyond their current authorised stage. This includes the project at Kilmuckridge.

The project will be considered in the context of the financial allocation for 2004 and subsequent years

Paudge Connolly

Ceist:

236 Mr. Connolly asked the Minister for Education and Science if the programme of repairs and refurbishment to substandard schools which was announced prior to May 2002 will proceed; the timescale involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13466/03]

The 2003 building programme has been published. Full details of projects are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie.

The budgetary allocation for 2004 and subsequent years will determine the rate of progress of projects that could not be included in this year's programme.
