Vol. 567 No. 3

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

115 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Finance his plans to provide additional funding for flood alleviation in 2003, in view of the fact that the Minister of State at his Department is unable to provide funding for such projects in County Kildare in 2003; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14111/03]

At present the Commissioners of Public Works are examining reports submitted by Kildare County Council on proposed flood alleviation works at Straffan and Ardclough, County Kildare. The council is also in the process of appointing a consultant to prepare a report on flooding in the Rye Water and Liffey rivers which impact on the Mill Lane, Leixlip and which will be forwarded to Office of Public Works when available.

Any proposals for works will need to be examined thoroughly to determine if they are feasible from an engineering environmental and cost benefit point of view. Funding cannot be addressed until this process has been completed.
