Vol. 567 No. 5

Written Answers. - Public Service Pay.

Aengus Ó Snodaigh

Ceist:

398 Aengus Ó Snodaigh asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if the award for local authority workers has been agreed, sanctioned, signed and delivered; the way in which it is to be paid; if it will be taxed; and if the award takes account of overtime payments for the years covered. [14721/03]

I assume the question refers to the payment of the first phase of pay increases following the report of the Public Service Benchmarking Body. My Department has sanctioned the payment of the increases recommended for the relevant local authority grades. Arrangements for the payment of this award are a matter for each local authority. I understand that the award is based on a person's substantive salary. Any benchmarking award is subject to income tax in the normal way.
