Vol. 567 No. 5

Written Answers. - Tribunals of Inquiry.

Jim O'Keeffe

Ceist:

157 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Taoiseach the number of tribunals, inquiries or other public committees of investigation under the aegis of his Department, established or in session at any point in the past four years; the estimated costs incurred by each of these inquiries in their operation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14706/03]

There has been one inquiry established under the aegis of my Department in the past four years, namely, the independent commission of inquiry, and there have been two tribunals in session in the past four years, the McCracken tribunal – Dunnes payments – and the Moriarty tribunal – payments to Messrs. C. J. Haughey and M. Lowry.

The total costs to date are as follows:

McCracken tribunal

6,655,763

Moriarty tribunal

13,077,243

Independent commission of inquiry

2,050,756
