Vol. 568 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Tom Hayes

Ceist:

365 Mr. Hayes asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will sanction the appointment of an extra staff member as a resource teacher to a school (details supplied) in County Tipperary to deal with the needs of 40 children with special needs, out of a total of 183 students. [15686/03]

As part of its evaluative role, my Department's inspectorate conducted a sample survey of 25 primary schools that have been allocated resource teacher and special needs assistant support. The school in question was included in this survey. The results of the survey are being considered at present and my Department will be in contact with the school authorities as soon as this process has been completed. The school currently has the services of five full-time resource teaching posts.
