Vol. 568 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Station Fire.

Charlie O'Connor

Ceist:

682 Mr. O'Connor asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will report on the recent fire at Tallaght Garda station which shocked the Tallaght community; if consultations are taking place to balance security considerations with the needs of the local community in respect of the public office; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15709/03]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that a person has been charged in con nection with the recent fire at Tallaght Garda station. Accordingly, the House will appreciate that I could not, with propriety, comment further on the incident itself.

As regards the public office, I am informed by the Garda authorities that the damage caused by the fire resulted in it being closed temporarily, but that the necessary repairs have been carried out and the office is again open to the public. I am also informed by the Garda authorities that an overall review of security is currently taking place with consideration being given to the needs of the public as well as those working in the station.
